Swings and roundabouts

Posted by: Julie - 15 Jul 2016 17:50

Our first outing at BE90 sadly didn't go as well as expected, but it wasn't a disaster by any means.  Bertha was definately more unsettled for some reason, I think she may well have been going off her season & the ground in the dressage warm up was a bit on the hard side, so although it was an ok test, there were some mistakes that should've been avoided and it wasn't as fluent as it had been on the previous outing.

I had been wobbling with the show jumping a little, I don't really know why, a bit of a transitional period between ways of riding & certainly riding moods for both myself and her, but I was determined to go and ride positively as I'd been told.  She took me by surprise by spooking as we went in & although I did ride positively, she did catch me out as I got a little too relaxed!  So a bit of a cricket score which then led me to decide to withdraw & not run across country, there didn't seem to be any point in 'wasting' her legs so we went home.

Our lesson that followed a few days later however, saw us back to our positive best & I was complimented by my way of riding, so that was pleasing!

As the summer holidays are almost upon me, I thought we would start to wind down a little & just keep the training ticking over & have 1 or 2 show jump outings before she has a mini break - UNTIL TODAY ......

We've only gone & qualified for the BRITISH SHOWJUMPING NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS !!!  No rest for the wicked!!
