British Show Jumping National Championships !

Excited was the overwhelming feeling, the nerves stayed in check - to begin with!  A 3.5 hour trip up to Stoneleigh went well & we arrived in good time on the Thursday afternoon.  Bertha was settled into her rather small stable whilst I got my bearings & went to look at the course for the following day.

I have to admit, I was pleasantly surprised.  The arena I was to jump in was large but a little out of the way of the main hubub of tradestands & pedestrian traffic.

On the Friday morning, I had the opportunity to jump the Clear Round in the arena I'd be riding in & I was really pleased I did, a nice clear round & lovely rosette set the nerves aside for the rest of the day!

We then had a long wait as the first class didn't start until lunchtime.  The 80cm class came first & we went in & completed but were just outside of the placings.  It didn't matter, I'd achieved, I'd jumped a championship class at the Nationals! Big tick!

The round I rode in the 90cm was much more relaxed & controlled & I was thrilled just to have ridded so well, so when they announced the results & called us into 8th place, I couldn't have been more thrilled - & just a little bit emotional!

So what a journey it's been!  Bertha & I have now been together for nearly 18 months, & in that time, i've gone from a nervous wreck with no confidence, to a top 10 placing at the National Championships and all through hard work & perseverance (& a super horse of course).  Now we're ready to start our next chapter and I can't wait!
