Happy days & Happy horses .....

Posted by: Julie - 07 Mar 2012 19:07

I've just returned from delivering Mattie to her new home with Alice & one very excited Elsie!  What a super set up they have to keep her at, lovely yard owner, typical wooden stables surrounding a small concrete yard, great outdoor school & there seems to be lovely quiet hacking for them to enjoy.  I really hope it works out and they have many years of happiness together.  Good Luck Mattie xx

Apart from spending a very tense hour whilst Mattie was vetted - I do hate vettings, I'm sure its only because the vet can find things that I can't & I always feel I'm being judged as much as the horse - I had an amazing morning with Maddy!  A very interesting jumping lesson in the wind, every time a fence got put up, the wind blew it down & at one point poor Hayley was hanging onto a jump just so I could safely canter past!!  But Maddy feels incredible & I feel very relaxed (which is a new one on me!)  The jumps are back up to 1.10 & we're popping them as if they were 75cm.  If someone had told me 5 years ago I would be feeling this way about my show jumping, I'd never have believed them!  It was all fairly disasterous back then!  It just goes to show that if you persevere & put the work in, you do get to reap the rewards.  Never give up!

The early part of this week has been hectic with lessons, both home & away.  A really big step forward with a little girl on a particularly cheeky pony & another of my little people cantering round the school & jumping some little straight rails!

The other good news is that I'm finally back on Millie & spent a very happy 20 minutes yesterday walking & trotting around the school.  She feels like she's really grown up this winter & her attitude - dare I say it - is starting to resemble her mum's (the lovely Annie).

Maddy has managed to get two hacks under her belt - thankfully - & now that I have a bit more time on my hands I should be able to get all that fitness work in that I was wondering where I was going to find the time to do it!  I'm also looking to getting Millie out for her first lesson next month ...... watch this space!!
